Pacific Paintball LLC has acquired both the National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) and the Xtreme Paintball Sports League (XPSL), the leading national and regional paintball tournament operators in the United States. Shawn Walker, current owner and President of XPSL, will be President of Pacific Paintball.

Mr. Walker stated: “We are very excited to bring a level of professionalism, consistency and coordination to all tournament and league events from the national to the regional and to the local level. With the financial backing of Pacific Merchant Capital, we intend to bring significant investment to upgrade all aspects of our product offering. This will bring substantial value to our players, sponsors and spectators.”

“The experienced professionals at Pacific Merchant Capital have a long list of successes to their credit and are dedicated to add another success through the paintball industry. The combination of the largest regional league with the most recognized national level league is a perfect alignment of goals to achieve optimum success.”

Mr. Walker has managed the XPSL tournament series for the past 3 years and has worked with numerous paintball tournaments across the US. He has been involved in all aspects of the paintball industry for the past 15 years, and is co-host and consultant for the television show Inside Paintball, broadcast on the Outdoor Channel.

Bart Walkerdine, current CEO of NPPL and Pure Promotions, will consult for the league and tournament series. Mr. Walkerdine stated: “We have been approached by many people over the last several years seeking to become involved in the NPPL. Pacific Paintball is the first group to come along which combines significant paintball industry experience, meaningful growth capital and a dedicated focus to league and tournament operations.” Camille Baker, Director of Marketing for the NPPL, will be a key executive of Pacific Paintball.

The National Professional Paintball League (NPPL) has continually set the standard for high quality tournaments. Its innovations include: use of specialty turf, holding events at large well known arenas like Raymond James Stadium and Gillette Stadium, and offering a professional referee organization. The first NPPL event of the 2007 season, at Huntington Beach, California on March 23rd-25th, will feature over 200 teams hitting the beach for an unprecedented fifth straight year. Registration opens January 29th and more information can be found at www.NPPL.tv.

Chuck Hendsch, former President and owner of NPPL, will serve on an advisory board to the NPPL. Mr. Hendsch stated: “I have known Shawn Walker and the principals at Pacific Merchant Capital for over three years. They have been interested in growing paintball participation and this provides a solid platform as the largest and only independent paintball tournament and event operation in the United States. Their efforts should help to grow overall paintball participation as well as the number of core players in our sport.”

Xtreme Paintball Sports League (XPSL) is the largest regional event series in the United States. In 2006, over 120 teams attended each event and thousands of spectators continued to call the high quality, affordably priced circuit home. The first XPSL tournament of the season is February 16th-18th at the Kern County Fairgrounds in Bakersfield, California. Registration is now open with more information available at www.XPSL.com.

Pacific Paintball has been formed by Pacific Merchant Capital (“PMC”), a Santa Barbara, California based investment group. In addition to Pacific Paintball, PMC is currently building Brite Media Group, a leading alternative media business.

The NPPL’s Mission is to be the World Wide Governing body of the sport of paintball, to run and promote the highest quality events, to ensure safe, fair, competitive play for members, teams and spectators, while showcasing Paintball as a major sport with integrity and professionalism. XPSL :: Format

by on Jan.25, 2005, under Events, News, Press Releases, Tournaments

Schedule: XPSL major 7-player events are three-day tournaments. Novice and Open teams play their opening round on Friday and Saturday. Rookie teams play their opening round on Saturday and Sunday morning. The semifinal and final rounds for Rookie, Novice and Open start late Sunday morning. The Young Guns play Saturday at all of the five major tourneys.

Captains’ Meetings: All captains’ meetings will be held at 7am on the first day of the event for that division.

Divisions: Major 7-player events separate Rookie (Division 5), Novice (Division 4) and Open teams into different divisions. Open teams play Open, Nov play Nov, Rke play Rke (see Player Classification), whenever possible. Team seeding within a bracket is based on overall circuit ranking, how many squads each team enters, and geographical relationships.

Games: Depending on the number of entries and the size of the brackets, 7-player teams will play between seven and eight games in the opening round. Teams will qualify for the quarter final round in the following manner:

If there are less than 8 teams in the classification there will be no quarter final round and the top four teams will qualify directly for the semifinal round.

If there are 8 to 20 teams in the classification, the top 8 teams therein will qualify and play in the quarter final round.

If there are 21 to 30 teams in the classification, the top 12 teams therein will qualify and play in the quarter final round.

If there are over 30 teams in the classification, the top 16 teams therein will qualify and play in the quarter final round.

The top two teams in each division of a two division quarter final round will qualify and play in the semi final round.

The top one team in each division of a three division’s quarter final round and the highest scoring team of the teams who took second place in their division will qualify and play in the semi final round.

The top one team in each division of a four division quarter final round will qualify and play in the semi final round.

Team positions at the end of a round of play are determined by total points earned by the teams in such round.

After the quarterfinals, the 1st place team plays 4th place in a semifinal, while 2nd plays 3rd in a semifinal, both in best of three games 7 minute time limit. Then in the finals the winner of 1v4 plays the winner of 2v3 for 1st & 2nd place, while the losing teams compete for 3rd & 4th place in a best of three 7-minute time limit.

Scoring: XPSL events use a 100-point-maximum per game scoring system. Accumulated points zero out between opening, semifinal and final rounds. (Refer to the Rules for more specific information about scoring, eliminations, flag pulls and hangs, etc.)

Prizes: Open prizes will be in product or certificates with the total retail value of 1st-4th at least $17,500. Novice (Division 4) prizes will be in product or certificates with the total retail value of 1st-4th at least $12,500. Rookie (Division 5) prizes will be in product or certificates with the total retail value of 1st-4th at least $10,000. Young Guns prizes will be in product or certificates with the total retail value of 1st-4th at least $1,875. Over $40,000 in prizes will be given away at each event.

Refs: The XPSL employee’s professional refs that do not compete in the league.

Affiliated Tourneys: Affiliated tournaments with the XPSL are independent events. However, the producers of affiliated events agree to use the same rules and scoring, the same basic format as XPSL major events, and require NPPL ID cards for all participants. Teams who attend affiliated events earn participation points toward the XPSL overall championships. Note: Do not send entry fees for affiliated events to the XPSL. Teams must contact the affiliated tournament producer for the schedule, prizes, entry fees, and format information (refer to the Schedule for minor/affiliated dates and contact phone numbers).

Young Guns League: The format for Young Guns is 3-player teams playing four-minute games of center flag. Each team will play between 7 to 8 games. The top teams from the brackets then advance to the next round. Air fills are included in the entry fee. There is no paint limit for the Young Guns Division. (See the Registration Form for entry fees, classification, etc.)

Rules: The XPSL will use modified NPPL rules for the 2006 season.
